August 19 The Studio Glass Movement: History & Evolution

Glass is older than recorded history, and yet it is as new as tomorrow! Join us as Curtiss Brock, Professor of Art and Head of the Glass Department at Tennessee Tech University’s Appalachian Center for Craft, discusses the history and evolution of glass. While teaching at the Pilchuck Glass School in Seattle, Brock worked with many established glass artists, including Dale Chihuly. He will use his first-hand knowledge to convey Chihuly’s contributions to the development, growth, and future of the Studio Glass movement.

Love the idea of having a garden, but don’t know where to start? Let the Cheekwood Garden Staff help you cultivate a green thumb in this four-part seasonal workshop. Beginning with plant basics and covering topics such as planning, propagating, planting, and pruning– this class will teach you all you need to know to keep your garden looking great.
Planting
Proper planting is the first step in establishing a successful garden. Learn how to prepare your site, select plants, and use specific planting techniques for perennials, ground covers, trees and shrubs. A portion of this workshop will take place in the garden, so please dress for the weather. Click here to register.
