Trains! Tennessee in G
April 4- September 6, 2009
Trains! Tennessee in G is an enchanting outdoor exhibit taking visitors across the State of Tennessee with model trains, miniature representations of Tennessee's best-loved landmarks, and colorful small-scale gardens. Train and garden enthusiasts, young and old, will enjoy the delightful sights and sounds of the miniature trains traversing high and low through tunnels, across bridges, and around buildings—all intricately handcrafted with natural materials, including twigs, bark, leaves, acorns, and pebbles. Created by famed garden railroad architect Paul Busse, this exhibition features three-dimensional structures that are amazingly accurate in detail. Busse has designed and created exhibits nationwide from The New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) to the Bellagio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
Led by Paul Busse, Applied Imagination is a nationally recognized, award winning crew of creative artists, botanical architects and landscape designers producing original public garden exhibits, seasonal displays and garden railways. Busse and his team create elaborate, three-dimensional structures made of natural materials including moss, twigs, leaves and seeds. Amazingly accurate in detail, his creations look remarkably like they were made of conventional materials, it is only after further inspection that the natural materials can be identified. More like artists than builders, the Applied Imagination team craft realistic settings featuring well known landmarks and cityscapes of the host site – almost like a postcard coming to life.
Paul Busse and his team have gained quite a bit of notoriety working on exhibitions for well known properties such as
New York Botanical Garden
Chicago Botanic Garden
United States Botanic Garden
Bellagio Conservatory
Longwood Gardens
State Fair of Texas
Atlanta Botanical Gardens
The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis
New Orleans Botanical Garden
Applied Imagination has also been featured on national television such as CBS Early Show, NBC TODAY show, CBS Sunday Morning, CNN Moneyline and PBS produced a documentary featuring the creation of the New York Botanical Garden’s Holiday Train Show exhibition.
Trains! Tennessee in G will use Cheekwood as a backdrop, embellished by Applied Imagination recreating the landscape and landmarks of the state of Tennessee.
