2-4 YEAR OLDS (Guardian/Child) 
MINI MASTERS
9:00 – 10:15 am

Campers will learn about a variety of artists and art forms, from European and American masters to Modern and Contemporary movements. Children will get their hands dirty with paint, collage, clay & more.

PAINTING POSSIBILITIES
10:30 – 11:45 am

This camp will give your preschooler the opportunity to experience painting in many different and unique ways.  With varied projects, textures, and tools –the result will be fabulous works of art.


5-6 YEAR OLDS
BUGS & BLOOMS - SOLD OUT!
9:00 am - 12:00 pm

In this all-time favorite class, campers will explore Cheekwood’s gardens to find artistic inspiration and venture into the studio to make their own crafts and creatures. Campers will enjoy learning about various insects, plants and bugs in the gardens, before creating beautiful artwork. This class combines time outdoors, weather permitting, in addition to time in the studio. Please Note: This is an art camp and campers will not handle any insects.

MIGHTY MASTERS
9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Campers will learn about a variety of artists and art forms, from Van Gogh and Picasso to Warhol and Chihuly, both in the classroom and by visiting Cheekwood’s exhibitions, such as Steve Tobin: Southern Roots. Children will get their hands dirty with paint, collage, sculpture & more.

ART & MOVEMENT
1:00 - 4:00 pm

Part of the Let’s Move Initiative, this unique class combines studio art and physical activities. Campers will learn about the influences of movement, such as dance and yoga, on visual art. This camp will involve time outdoors, weather permitting, exploring Cheekwood’s gardens and exhibitions such as Steve Tobin: Southern Roots and International Playhouses, while making their own artworks in the studio and engaging in physical activity for approximately 45 minutes each day.

PAINT & SCULPT
1:00 - 4:00 pm

Explore the exciting world of 3D art in this fun class. Campers will do it all with painting, drawing, and sculpting inspired Steve Tobin’s works in the Botanical Gardens and Museum of Art. Campers will also enjoy seeing different sculptures on Cheekwood’s Sculpture Trail and learning about other famous artists.

CRITTER CREATIONS
1:00 - 4:00 pm

Enjoy learning about critters in your own neighborhood and across the globe. Some projects will be inspired by our ecosystem, while others may take camper imaginations deep into the jungle and ocean. Create your own animal mash-ups, habitats and critters with painting, drawing and 3-D design.

 

7-10 YEAR OLDS
CLAY FUNDAMENTALS - SOLD OUT!
9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Campers will discover the basics of hand building and throwing on the wheel.  From learning the fundamentals and throwing their own cylinders, bowls, and plates to exploring underglazes and textures – campers will do it all!  No prior experience is necessary.

GARDEN & NATURE EXPLORERS
9:00 am - 12:00 pm

This unique camp is designed to foster respect and appreciation for the environment and to inspire a sense of wonder through direct experiences with the natural world. Campers will enjoy hands-on activities, insect and plant encounters, nature hikes, outdoor games, stories and craft projects. Our art studios and botanical garden will provide beautiful, spacious areas for learning, play and discovery!

STUDIO FUNDAMENTALS
9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Over the course of a week, campers will work with a variety of materials as they discover a wide array of studio arts. Exploring both 2D & 3D processes, projects will include drawing, painting, sculpting and working with clay. Each week will vary in theme to encourage students to discover fun new ways of expressing their creativity.

ART & FASHION - SOLD OUT
1:00 - 4:00 pm

Explore the art of fashion in this stylish class. Campers will learn about fashion design, accessory making, and fashion history. From sketching their own designs to making their own jewelry, this course will introduce campers to the basics of fashion and design while using a variety of materials.

INTERNATIONAL ART ADVENTURE
1:00 - 4:00 pm

Take a trip around the world in this exciting class.  From Cheekwood’s Japanese Garden to our summer International Playhouses exhibition, campers will expand their knowledge of different cultures & artists while creating works of art and learning foreign language vocabulary. Enjoy a wide variety of art making with unique materials!

READY, SET, PAINT!
1:00 - 4:00 pm

Do you love to paint?  If so, this is the camp for you!  Using tempra, watercolor, and acrylic paints, campers will learn about basic techniques and create fun painting projects.  Children will enjoy painting on a variety of different surfaces in addition to traditional canvas.

 

11-15 YEAR OLDS
PLEIN AIR SKETCHING
9:00 am - 12:00 pm

The art studio moves outdoors in this exciting drawing class. Campers will explore Cheekwood’s grounds while learning drawing fundamentals such as perspective and composition, while taking inspiration from our landscape and exhibitions such as Steve Tobin: Southern Roots and International Playhouses. This class will combine time in the studio in addition to outdoor time.
