The Cheekwood Museum of Art

The Museum of Art is housed in a Georgian-style mansion, formerly the home of the Cheek family. The Museum’s permanent collections consist of Decorative Arts (Royal Worcester porcelain, silver and furniture) and American Art (paintings, prints and photographs). The painting collection has been installed in three groups 1) Portraits, 2) Land and Seascapes, and 3) Still lifes & Genre, selected to evoke a variety of interpretations from students and visitors. The Museum is also recognized as a center for contemporary art in the Southeast United States.

The Botanical Garden
Cheekwood’s Botanical Garden is a vast outdoor classroom providing 55 breathtaking acres of trees, shrubs and flowers for comparative study. The gardens range in style and design, representing different historical periods and displaying a variety of special herbs, perennials, native plants, and colors. Visitors can learn how plants grow, experience a tropical cloud forest, discover the Tennessee woodlands and experience
the serenity of a Japanese garden.

The Carell Woodland Sculpture Trail
Cheekwood’s Sculpture Trail is a mile-long path winding through the woodlands of the Cheek estate. Each of the sculptures along the trail directly relates to its natural setting, inspiring students and visitors to look at art in new ways. Distinct from sculpture parks and gardens, this unique blend of art and nature is infused with energy. Amongst the foliage of the Tennessee forest, students have the opportunity to explore the power and beauty of interactive sculptures by local, regional and internationally acclaimed artists.

Frist Learning Center at Cheekwood
The Frist Learning Center is a poetic blend of old and new architecture. Here, the courtyard and former stables of the Cheek estate bridge with a spacious glass hall to form galleries, studios, and meeting space. Contemporary galleries display art and video installations by local and regional contemporary artists.
