Botany Basics: The Botanical Garden as a Classroom Resource

Workshop Overview:
This workshop offers educators the opportunity to take an in-depth look at the garden while focusing on plant parts and their functions, tree and plant identification, and species native to Tennessee that make Cheekwood their home.

Workshop Overview:
Join artist Hans Schmitt-Matzen for an in-depth look at his work and inspiration. On display in Cheekwood’s Temporary Contemporary Gallery, the work explores the spatial relationship of being in a library. The artwork in this series is based on photographs taken in libraries, and attempts to convey the painterly aesthetics of panning one’s eye across the rolling spines of books lining a shelf. This workshop will begin at Cheekwood with a discussion led by Schmitt-Matzen in the gallery space. Participants will then drive to Watkins for lunch and art making activities inspired by the artist’s work and process.

Cheekwood in the morning, Watkins in the afternoon

$20 ($15 for Cheekwood members)

Participants will earn 6.5 Professional Development hours for attending.
Workshop registration fees are non-refundable. If your cancellation is received two weeks in advance, you will receive a credit for a future teacher workshop within the same calendar year.
