Summer Camp Intern
DESCRIPTION:
Summer Camp internships are designed to expose students to the multi-faceted and high energy field of museum education while providing students with opportunities to apply classroom skills in a real-world environment. Studio Assistants help oversee the operations and studios of Cheekwood’s summer art camp. Over the summer, Cheekwood provides quality fine art to over 1,000 children. Interns play an integral role in ensuring the quality and success of the program by supervising the studio spaces, organizing and overseeing supplies and materials, and assisting camp instructors with art projects and lessons.
Responsibilities Include:
• Hands-on classroom instruction
• Overseeing camp registration
• Preparing supplies and materials for classes
• Interacting with visitors, campers, and parents through educational activities
• Providing excellent customer service for parents & children enrolled in classes
• Assisting instructors with preparation and execution of projects and art activities
Experience in the following areas is preferred:
• Experience supervising children
• Teaching experience
• Public speaking
• Museum Education
• Customer Service
HOURS/TIME COMMITMENT:
The teaching assistant internship program runs 10 weeks, June 1- August 4. Interns are required to work between 25 and 40 hours per week, with a 4 week minimum commitment.
COMPENSATION / COLLEGE CREDIT:
All interns are encouraged to obtain credit for internships through their academic institution. The education department internship program does not currently offer any paid internship positions. Interns are responsible for their housing, meals, and travel expenses. However, interns will receive discounts in Cheekwood’s restaurant and gift shop and have access to the art studios for their own use during non-camp or class times.

Art Studio Intern
DESCRIPTION:
Education internships are designed to expose students to the multi-faceted and high energy field of museum education while providing students with opportunities to apply classroom skills in a real-world environment. Art Studio Interns will assist with the summer camp program, work with the Education & Programs staff to develop lesson plans and activities, and manage and facilitate the weekly Saturday AM drop-in classes.
Saturday AM
The Studio Art Intern is responsible for teaching Cheekwood’s weekly Saturday AM drop-in art classes. From developing the art activities and preparing the supplies to facilitating each class on Saturdays, interns will work with the Studio Coordinator/Summer Camp Manager to create a fun and educational season of classes.
Studio Assistance
Additional responsibilities will include assisting the Studio Coordinator/Summer Camp Manager with supply inventory, instructor requests, studio organization, and weekly camp supply management.
Summer Camp Assistance
The Studio Art Intern will also assist with the summer camp program by supervising weekly registration every Monday morning and afternoon, overseeing supply distribution to classrooms, and planning the daily extended-care activities.
Responsibilities include:

• Leading Saturday AM program every Saturday, beginning June 5th
• Maintaining Art Studios and Equipment
• Hands-on classroom instruction
• Preparing supplies and materials for classes
• Interacting with visitors, campers, and parents through educational activities
• Providing excellent customer service for parents & children enrolled in classes
Experience in the following areas is preferred:
• Experience supervising children

• Familiar with a variety of art mediums and materials
HOURS/TIME COMMITMENT:
The teaching assistant internship program runs 10 weeks, June 1- August 4. Interns are required to work between 25 and 40 hours per week, with a 4 week minimum commitment. The Studio Art Intern must be able to work Mondays 8:30am-4:30pm and Saturdays from 9:30am-12:30pm.

Ceramic Studio Intern
DESCRIPTION:
Education internships are designed to expose students to the multi-faceted and high energy field of museum education while providing students with opportunities to apply classroom skills in a real-world environment. Cheekwood offers the Ceramic Studio Internship to a qualified graduate or undergraduate candidate with a background in ceramic art.
Studio Supervision – Ceramic Studio
The Ceramic Studio Intern works directly with the Summer Camp Manager and ceramic instructors to assist with the ordering and purchase of supplies as well as daily material preparation.
Kiln Operation
Cheekwood offers at least two clay classes each week during the summer camp program. It is the responsibility of the Ceramic Studio Intern to oversee the successful firing of all clay pieces. This includes: monitoring drying time of clay pieces, loading and firing the kilns, organized fired pieces, and scheduling the pick-up of all completed pottery.
Teaching Assistance
The Ceramics Studio Intern will assist the camp instructors with teaching and overseeing the campers each week. The Ceramics Studio Intern will also train volunteers on the Ceramics Studio practices and procedures.

• Interacting with visitors, campers, and parents through educational activities
• Providing excellent customer service for parents & children enrolled in classes

• Applicants must have some wheel-throwing experience
• Assisting instructors with preparation and execution of projects and art activities
HOURS/TIME COMMITMENT:
The Ceramic Studio internship program runs 10 weeks, June 1- August 4. The Ceramic Studio Intern is required to work between 25 and 40 hours per week, for the duration of summer camp. Some time may be required prior to camp for training, orientation sessions, and studio preparation.
COMPENSATION / COLLEGE CREDIT: THIS IS AN UNPAID INTERNSHIP
The Ceramic Studio Intern will also have access to all Ceramic Studio equipment, wheels, and kilns when they are not being used for camp classes. In addition, the Ceramic Studio intern will receive 25 pounds of clay for the summer, with more clay is available at a modest cost.
