Volunteer Docent Program

The Docent Program is operated through the education department. Docents are volunteer teachers who provide information and interactive experiences to groups touring the museum collections (ranging from early American paintings to today's cutting edge video art). Docents also give tours of traveling exhibitions and the Woodland Sculpture Trail.

School Group Tours are arranged in advance and generally provide curriculum related and age appropriate museum information.
Adult Group Tours are offered on a pre-scheduled or walk-up basis of the museum collections, traveling exhibitions or Woodland Sculpture Trail.

Docent Training Sessions are offered each spring and fall and consist of extensive classes related to art history, the decorative arts, and art works from the Cheekwood collections. Continuous educational classes are offered. Classes are taught by Cheekwood curators. Time commitments and training programs vary.

If you wish to participate in the Docent Program, please call 615-353-6971 Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or email cgregory@cheekwood.org
