Steve Tobin: Southern Roots
February 20 - September 4
(Indoor exhibition ends on May 29)
Acclaimed sculptor and artist Steve Tobin will debut Southern Roots, a solo exhibition of monumental sculptures. The exhibition will also feature a special installation of one of Tobin’s sculptures in downtown Nashville’s Riverview Gardens at Riverfront Park, as part of Cheekwood’s partnership with Metro Parks.
Southern Roots will feature work from Tobin’s Steelroots sculptures, an evolution of his signature bronze Walking Roots series. In addition to his massive sculptures in steel and bronze, Tobin incorporates natural elements such as wood, glass and ceramics to create dramatic works of art.
At Cheekwood, the outdoor exhibition will encompass five areas in the West Gardens, while in the museum, visitors will have the opportunity to see these sculptures in the third floor gallery spaces. Tobin’s newest series, using wood from fallen trees in Costa Rica, has never before been exhibited and will be a highlight of the indoor exhibition.
