SCHOOL AND OUTREACH COORDINATOR
Cheekwood Botanical Garden & Museum of Art seeks a highly qualified individual to manage all school and outreach programs. He/She will work within the Education and Programs Department to further Cheekwood’s mission by cultivating unique educational opportunities for learners of all ages. Reporting to the Manager of Education and Public Programs, the School and Outreach Coordinator will develop and coordinate exciting offerings for students, teachers, and community groups throughout Middle Tennessee.

Responsibilities: This position is responsible for all Cheekwood-sponsored outreach programs, including: managing existing outreach initiatives such as Cheekwood Explorations, Craft Outreach, and Oasis; developing new outreach programs and initiatives; creating supplemental educational and interpretive materials to complement outreach programs; and representing Cheekwood at off-site outreach events and festivals. The School and Outreach Coordinator is also responsible for all school-related programs and initiatives, including: developing and managing curriculum-based tours for collections and exhibitions; preparing interpretive materials such as Educator Guides to accompany and enhance tour offerings; cultivating relationships with local school systems, as well as private, parochial, and home schools in the area; communicating successfully with teachers to schedule school visits to Cheekwood; developing teacher workshops and trainings as well as teacher appreciation days; and coordinating school programs such as The Scholastic Art Competition. As part of the Education and Public Programs staff, the School and Outreach Coordinator collaborates within an interdisciplinary environment to develop and refine the content and logistics as well as the marketing and implementation of programs. This individual will also track all school and outreach-related attendance, maintain program budgets, and assist with departmental programs and special events as needed.

Requirements: B.A. minimum, graduate degree in related subject preferred; minimum 3 years teaching experience required, either in classroom or museum setting; proven track record of prior development and implementation of interpretive programs for students grades pre-K through 12; proven management ability and excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills.

TEMPORARY PART-TIME HOUSEKEEPER
Cheekwood is seeking an experienced Housekeeper. This position is responsible for general cleaning operations and meeting installations. Must be a team player with an appreciation for detail and have the ability to regularly lift and move up to 50 pounds. Working hours will be Tuesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This is a temporary position starting immediately and ending on October 31, 2010.

ASSISTANT SUMMER CAMP MANAGER
Cheekwood Botanical Garden and Museum of Art is seeking a creative, well organized, and energetic individual to oversee the operations of its Summer Camp program. Over a period of 8 weeks, Cheekwood provides quality art, craft, garden, and outdoor adventure camps to approximately 900 children. The Assistant Summer Camp Manager plays an integral role in ensuring the quality and success of the program. Responsibilities of the Assistant Summer Camp Manager will include managing the interns and volunteers, supervising the studio space, overseeing and managing supplies and assisting teachers as needed. Individual must have excellent customer service skills. College Degree, or currently enrolled in a degreed program, is required and experience in art education and studio management is preferred. This temporary full time position will begin on May 28th, 2010 and end August 6th, 2010. Work hours will be Monday – Friday from 8am till 5pm. Successful candidates subject to background check.

CHEEKWOOD EDUCATION INTERNSHIP | SUMMER CAMP INTERN
DESCRIPTION:
Summer Camp internships are designed to expose students to the multi-faceted and high energy field of museum education while providing students with opportunities to apply classroom skills in a real-world environment. Studio Assistants help oversee the operations and studios of Cheekwood’s summer art camp. Over the summer, Cheekwood provides quality fine art to over 1,000 children. Interns play an integral role in ensuring the quality and success of the program by supervising the studio spaces, organizing and overseeing supplies and materials, and assisting camp instructors with art projects and lessons.
Responsibilities Include:
• Hands-on classroom instruction
• Overseeing camp registration
• Preparing supplies and materials for classes
• Interacting with visitors, campers, and parents through educational activities
• Providing excellent customer service for parents & children enrolled in classes
• Assisting instructors with preparation and execution of projects and art activities

Experience in the following areas is preferred:
• Experience supervising children
• Teaching experience
• Public speaking
• Museum Education
• Customer Service

HOURS/TIME COMMITMENT:
The teaching assistant internship program runs 10 weeks, June 1- August 4. Interns are required to work between 25 and 40 hours per week, with a 4 week minimum commitment.

COMPENSATION / COLLEGE CREDIT:
All interns are encouraged to obtain credit for internships through their academic institution. The education department internship program does not currently offer any paid internship positions. Interns are responsible for their housing, meals, and travel expenses. However, interns will receive discounts in Cheekwood’s restaurant and gift shop and have access to the art studios for their own use during non-camp or class times.

CHEEKWOOD EDUCATION INTERNSHIP | ART STUDIO INTERN
DESCRIPTION:
Education internships are designed to expose students to the multi-faceted and high energy field of museum education while providing students with opportunities to apply classroom skills in a real-world environment. Art Studio Interns will assist with the summer camp program, work with the Education & Programs staff to develop lesson plans and activities, and manage and facilitate the weekly Saturday AM drop-in classes.

Saturday AM
The Studio Art Intern is responsible for teaching Cheekwood’s weekly Saturday AM drop-in art classes. From developing the art activities and preparing the supplies to facilitating each class on Saturdays, interns will work with the Studio Coordinator/Summer Camp Manager to create a fun and educational season of classes.

Studio Assistance
Additional responsibilities will include assisting the Studio Coordinator/Summer Camp Manager with supply inventory, instructor requests, studio organization, and weekly camp supply management.

Summer Camp Assistance
The Studio Art Intern will also assist with the summer camp program by supervising weekly registration every Monday morning and afternoon, overseeing supply distribution to classrooms, and planning the daily extended-care activities.

Responsibilities include:
• Supply Inventory and Distribution
• Leading Saturday AM program every Saturday, beginning June 5th
• Maintaining Art Studios and Equipment
• Hands-on classroom instruction
• Preparing supplies and materials for classes
• Interacting with visitors, campers, and parents through educational activities

CHEEKWOOD EDUCATION INTERNSHIP | CERAMIC STUDIO INTERN
DESCRIPTION:

Education internships are designed to expose students to the multi-faceted and high energy field of museum education while providing students with opportunities to apply classroom skills in a real-world environment. Cheekwood offers the Ceramic Studio Internship to a qualified graduate or undergraduate candidate with a background in ceramic art.

Studio Supervision – Ceramic Studio
The Ceramic Studio Intern works directly with the Summer Camp Manager and ceramic instructors to assist with the ordering and purchase of supplies as well as daily material preparation.

Kiln Operation
Cheekwood offers at least two clay classes each week during the summer camp program. It is the responsibility of the Ceramic Studio Intern to oversee the successful firing of all clay pieces. This includes: monitoring drying time of clay pieces, loading and firing the kilns, organized fired pieces, and scheduling the pick-up of all completed pottery.

Teaching Assistance
The Ceramics Studio Intern will assist the camp instructors with teaching and overseeing the campers each week. The Ceramics Studio Intern will also train volunteers on the Ceramics Studio practices and procedures.

Responsibilities Include:
• Maintaining Ceramics Studio and Equipment
• Hands-on classroom instruction
• Preparing supplies and materials for classes
• Interacting with visitors, campers, and parents through educational activities
• Providing excellent customer service for parents & children enrolled in classes

• Applicants must have some wheel-throwing experience
• Assisting instructors with preparation and execution of projects and art activities

HOURS/TIME COMMITMENT:
The Ceramic Studio internship program runs 10 weeks, June 1- August 4. The Ceramic Studio Intern is required to work between 25 and 40 hours per week, for the duration of summer camp. Some time may be required prior to camp for training, orientation sessions, and studio preparation.

COMPENSATION / COLLEGE CREDIT: THIS IS AN UNPAID INTERNSHIP
The Ceramic Studio Intern will also have access to all Ceramic Studio equipment, wheels, and kilns when they are not being used for camp classes. In addition, the Ceramic Studio intern will receive 25 pounds of clay for the summer, with more clay is available at a modest cost.

MUSEUM EXHIBITION INTERN
Cheekwood Museum Exhibition Internships are designed for the university or college student seeking to gain hands-on experience in a non-profit museum and/or botanic garden. Interns will experience all aspects of day-to-day museum operations, including working with different departments of a museum and observing how various departments interact with one another.

Majors in education, art education, art history, studio art, arts management, business, communications, marketing and/or related areas of study are desired.

Internships are offered during the school year, coinciding with the fall semester, spring semester, and summer break. This program is ideal for students registered in programs that permit independent studies, and courses that require internships or practicum credits.

Hours/Time Commitment:
Internships are available between April 1st and November 19th. Hours vary and are flexible, but a minimum of 12 hours per week is generally expected, with a 6 week minimum commitment.

Compensation/College Credit:
All interns are encouraged to obtain academic credit for internships through their academic institution. Cheekwood currently offers no paid internship positions but does offer a Perk Program*.

Museum Exhibition Internships are designed to expose students to the multi-faceted and high energy field of museum operations while providing students with opportunities to apply their learned classroom skills in a real-world environment.

Responsibilities Include:
• Instructing visitors about the current exhibition, the artist and his/her work
• Assisting Exhibition Volunteers with preparation and execution of Events and Projects
• Overseeing administration projects including scheduling a calendar of events and Exhibition Volunteer shifts (must be proficient in Excel)
• Preparing supplies and materials for trainings
• Organizing and developing curriculum for various training programs
• Providing superb customer service for both Exhibition Volunteers and Cheekwood visitors

Experience in the following areas is preferred:
• Experience supervising/managing individuals
• Art and/or Horticulture
• Public speaking
• Museum Studies and it’s application
• Customer Service
